Post subject:  Beta Release - My scenario editor (not the official one).

I haven't heard anything from the Devs saying they'd rather not have me distribute this, so here is a more complete version of my scenario editor.

It can now create scenarios and save them, allowing access to many of the scenario tools. You can place units, modify how much money is given for each country, and set up the basic options. This editor also does some of the groundwork needed to create a scenario from scratch... namely it creates a simple .msc file (which is used for the scenario introduction).

It does not make it any easier to deal with the .msc camera positioning, and only has a couple automatically specified intro balloons, but at least its better than using one that has been created for another scenario :).

Also, I haven't implemented loading existing scenarios, and many of the advanced victory and disclosure conditions are beyond my grasp (no documentation). And I haven't tested it too extensively, so there may be some bugs still. The only map you can use is still Antarticus.

This stated, the scenario editor is a fully functional way to create simple to moderately advanced scenarios for the MA population.

Coming soon:
Restoring from scenario files, additional maps to choose from, and a more advanced intro editor, depending on whether people are interested and what my schedule is like.

Finally, once again, I am not trying to compete with the Massive Assault team. I am mearly providing a tool that hopefully will allow people to have some additional fun with the game, while people are waiting for the official scenario creator to be finished.

Here is a scenario I created using my editor.

It is a simple scenario that I've rated as a medium difficulty and a quick duration. Unzip this to your Massive Assault scenarios directory

A couple more notes about scenario creation:

First, make sure that you specify a picture file in the Scenario Options. It can be an existing one in the scenarios directory, or any .bmp or .tga you create. If you create one, put it in the scenarios directory. Failure to specify a picture file or specifying a nonexistant one will make Massive Assault unstable.

Planes have an additional placement parameter I didn't notice at first. This parameter has to do with the position of the plane in a city or on a carrier. The text will be something like this:
UNIT, 6, AIRA, ALIENS, 15, 25, 0

You'll need to manually add the last parameter after saving a scenario with the editor.

Also, I haven't added functionality to allow more than one unit per location in the editor yet (units starting in transports, multiple bombers in one city, etc). You'll have to manually add these in as well.

Victory conditions need work too. It assigns some default ones, but more likely than not you'll want to change them manually.

Nice one! :-)

Official Scenario Editor is going to be released next week. It should help you a bit in the areas your scenario editor lacks. It is no problem that alternative scenario editor exists. I would like it become better than official one ;-)

Thanks for the response Vano, I've been wondering what you guys thought about this project. Didn't want to step on any toes.

Any compatibility issues I should know about? Will it work with the (up to now) unpatched Matrix version?

Yes, it will work with any version of Massive Assault except Demo version. It should work fine even on cracked versions :-)

"It should work fine even on cracked versions", now that's an odd thing for a developer to say . No I don't have a cracked version, seems pointless I don't think one can really play online with illegal versions... atleast I hope not.

That's the only thing that stop people from copying some games. Like Warcraft 3, Half-Life etc... those with illegal copies can probably just play offline.

You need a unique activation code to play online. [CENSORED]

Hi i was wondering how you get the intro feature working?

No matter what it seems i do, the intro feature is always greyed out./

I haven't worked on it since this beta release... that feature was planned for a later release, but there hasn't been much interest. You can still modify the intro file, which is a simple file to edit. I did it for my "One Last Chance" scenario in this forum. Didn't mess with camera angles, but I did have 6 different baloons pop up.

You can modify camera angles too, I think there is a ctrl-c option that creates a file with a camera position you like while you are in game. There was a thread in the support forum about that somewhere, with a reply by Artmax I believe.

Yes thank you, i didnt realize what the .msc file was for hehe

Ive been playing with the balloon feature, and ive come to the conclusion, that Notepad is the best MA editor. ^_^;;

Personally, I play with a cracked version (online, though last night was the first time I tried)... the crack simply allows you to play without the CD in the computer. Personally, I find that very annoying, since none of the data on the CD actually needs to be accessed.

None of this really affects online play - you still need a key to play online, plus it doesn't affect cheating. Even if you had a cracked version that let you cheat by adding units, etc, it would be easily seen by simply saving a replay of it and reporting it. It's not like a FPS, where cheating is rampant because it's easy to hide.
