Something I'd like to see would be a timer for each side. Kind of like a chess clock type of thing. We've tried using a kind of chess clock app but it was cumbersome to use by having to ALT-Tab to it, both of us pressing the space bar..etc. I've tried searching for a kind of network based stopwatch but to no avail. So if anyone knows of such an animal that would be very cool. The next step is to just buy a chess clock.

This has been something discussed at length previously, and one of the features that players have been calling for for a while (in both LAN games and online games). The current time limit system is just too harsh. I believe something along these lines will be in MAN-Domination

If we had more advanced timers, then players will be more likely to play games with quicker limits, and here's why:

Right now, people only accept games that have time limits longer than their usual worst case time between turns. In the case of people that don't have time on weekends to play, they don't accept games with less than a 3 day time limit, even though they can play one turn per day during the week.

Lets consider if they had a chess timer. Lets say they start with 10 total days to complete the game, and they get 1 extra day each time they get a turn from your opponent. He has the same time to begin with as well, counted seperately.

So during the week, that player plays one game per day, and may even play 2 turns on some days. Each time he gets a turn back it adds 1 day to his timer. So if he plays two turns in one day he gets ahead.

But then the weekend comes and he can't play, so his timer counts down a couple days. Also, if some emergency comes up, or they get too busy for a couple days, then they have the flexibility to come back when they can, then play quicker to make up the lost time.

So in the end you get a game with a 1 day time limit for a person that would never accept a 3 day limit with how it is now in MAN. Sure, if they don't pay attention, they'll quickly run out of time, but then its their fault.

I'd think that given this implementation, you could even have timeouts be automatic at the end of the game, as there is plenty of flexibility for everybody. You won't need to time your opponent out because it does it automatically.
