What happens if I let a game time out? Does the other player win automatically? Or is the winner the one with the advantage at the time of the last turn?

In the battle with "chess time limit" player win automatically as soon as time for other side come to the end. In the battle with standard time limit you can wait or press Finish manually.

i.e i can give some additional time for my opponent to make his turn in case of standart time limit ? (if i am waiting and don't press Finish)

But if you hit finish, you win?

I ask because I noticed players not surrendering or playing when they are clearly on losing side. I was wondering if it was a strategy, or just denial.

Yes, when you press finish you win. I also don't know about reason for such not surrending strategy.

Yes, you can wait any time with standard time limit before press Finish (if player press Finish, he win this battle).
