Good work Tiger bet there was alot of time and effort on your part to get this up and running. :D

Seconded. But now that you've had a rest Tiger, can I suggest some inprovements to the tournament webpages? :)

1. The games page has a bug. It will only display the last 20 games in the list.

2. Can we have the number of turns shown on this page since it is relevant and can you keep the finished games in the list?

3. Can we have some sort of Group View like the players page has?

4. The players page only shows two players with a score but many games are finished. Why is this?

thanks again
Tim

Some more ideas .....

In the group view - it would be good to show a matrix / table of the following

Player : Games Won : Games Lost : Games Drawn : Games in Progress: Points: Total Turn.

That way, at a quick glance, we can see how each pool is progressing, How many games have finished, how many players have won/lost/drawn games etc.......

Just and idea - if its too hard - don't worry about it - I am just glad the trounament is up and running. The score boards and web pages are just nice extra's.

Thanks for the great effort to TIGER and the TEAM in getting this tournament going.

I've implemented almost all your requested features except Games Group View. I'm not sure about how it should look like

Great stuff - (but - I still can't change the 20 per page setting in the games view and 651-670 are now missing from the list.)

For me it would be enough to have another column for the Pool Number and be able to sort on that. Or you could have a pick list and optionally only show games from a single Pool.

Yes it's OK for me now. Must have been user error.

Post subject:  TOURNAMENT REPORT

139 players from 30 countries across the world have come together to do battle in one of the greatest tests of nerve and intellect known to mankind - the MAN2 FIRST CUP. The first round is now well under way with 670 battles being fought over the narrow straits and plains of Beotorum planet.

The most skillful players have already mercilessly dispatched a number of their opponents. The fastest defeat so far was inflicted by Col. Rimus who managed to crush his opponent on turn 8. The fastest surrender was forced by Gen. Pitor who demorallised his opponent into giving up after only 4 turns. I hope I don't meet those guys in Round 2!

Clear leaders have emerged in most of the first round pools, but a few pools are still hotly contested. One such battle is in Pool 21 where 1_paco and krunk are at loggerheads. They have a game that is still going after 34 turns! Check out the latest results on the MAN2 web site.

A lot of players have yet to make any turns in their battles. This is not a tactic that is known to work well in chess clock games. Come on people. You only have a few days left to make all your turns!

Good luck to all contestants
timm

Note there are 20 games missing from the games stats page, so my facts may not be correct.

The first two battles were finished as a draw (games between Dragon Tyrant and Living Legend). The total number of finished games: 116.

I know that the first placed player in each pool progresses to the next round... but how are the other 5 players determined? Is it worked out on points? what about the pools where there are only 5 players? Just asking as there are a couple of pools where the competition is very intense and it would be sad to see the second place person not make it through.

Additionally, 6 players, who’ll take the second place in their pools, will also proceed to the following stage basing on the best records (number of tournament's victories, sum of turns in lost battles minus sum of turns in won battles).

AFAIK all players who won't be 1st/2nd in their pool this tournament is over.

Probably, next tournament will have League format (players of MAN1 could remember it). In that tournament ALL players could take part in tournament during all rounds.

I’ve got a message about planet for the next round:
Some players said that Twin Islands is too large and difficult map for the 10 battles with 2 weeks in chess-time format. So we decided to change Twin Islands with Eden and time-limit will be saved as 2 weeks in chess-time format.

I don't like this decision. I prefer L and XL maps which don't depend too much on luck with layout.

I borrowed this comment from the "New MAN2 Rating Thread":
storm440 wrote:
I look at the maps more with a view to what chance a player has to pull the game out if they have a bad layout. With the larger maps such as NP, trinity, sea swiss and the swamp, you have a much better chance of employing some sort of long term stratigy that may help you recover from a bad layout.
...
On a map such as noble rust, there is much less chance of this happening so once your opponent starts rolling it is almost impossible to stop them, unless they are really bad.

I'd have prefered an extended chess clock time than playing on such a map. And with this in mind I'd appreciate NP or TR as final phase map with a three or four weeks chess clock.

I know this tournament would last much longer. Who cares? I'm not in a hurry. What about you?

This tournament is the first, but not last ;)
One of the target of current tournament - checking of new software.
After end of this tournament could be started new long official tournament with many maps. Additionally, we continue work and I hope in the nearest future players with subscription will be able to create own tournaments:

It should be toss-up like soccer championship.
Top five players in the experience rating will be randomly placed in the five pools (one player in each group), then next five players will be placed randomly in the five pools etc.
