If I remember correctly some capitals in Domination had turrets, but I might be mistaken. Anyway that could be an interesting addition. They should of course be quite expensive, but indestructible. One would need to capture the capital to take over control of the turret. So this should be possible to implement without much work yes?

Another idea would be to include mine-layers, both for land and sea. These could lay one mine each round. Mines would give two hp of damage on the unit crossing it, but should not slow it down. This could be achieved by applying certain rules as for the battle platform, even when destroyed. That is, it must be possible to walk over it. If mines have one hp itself they would not be too powerful.

mines may be a good idea, maybe not, it does add a new level of complexity, as you would need, mines, mine layer (navel & land) and mine detector (navel & land). Provided the mines were free, then one mine a turn is ok. Mine sweeping unit automatically destroys mines in all surrounding hexes.
