Hello,

We're programming at the moment new feature that will allow usage of extended units set - 18 from Domination + 3 unique from opponent’s side.

We're trying to give them names that would be logic in terms of FNU and PL.

Here's what I mean:
Bio-Tank (PL) is Tank (FNU)
Annihilator (PL) is Rocket Launcher (FNU)

So we'd like you to think and offer names for:

Attack Copter as PL
Submarine as PL
Battle Platform as PL

Transport Copter as FNU
Bullfrog as FNU
Leviathan as FNU

We think of naming Submarine as Shark (for PL). But may be you could offer us better definition for this and other units.

Thank you,
Nick.

My variant:

"Attack Copter as PL" = Vulture
"Submarine as PL" = Shark (as you proposed)
"Battle Platform as PL" = imho, "turtle" is the best choice, but it's already occupied...

"Transport Copter as FNU" = Apache
"Bullfrog as FNU" = Giant Mech or something like that
"Leviathan as FNU" = Flagship

A question: are you going to make new graphic design for these "new" units? if yes, maybe you could show us some screenshots first? it would make the problem less vague.

Thank you for your variants. The design won't be affected a lot - we adjust the color scheme to make unique units looking naturally when playing for other side.

Some new variants:
"Battle Platform as PL" = Pond-skater
"Transport Copter as FNU" = Air crane (ordinary for units of FNU was used human technical name).
"Bullfrog as FNU" = Super Robot (as analog for Heavy Robot).

More:

PL Sub - Shark (good suggestion)
PL Attack Copter - Dragon
PL Battle Platform - Still thinking of a good one for this

FNU Bullfrog - I'd call it the Mobile Fortress, and instead of making it a robot as the Bullfrog is, make it a massive treaded vehicle for variety (if that is possible).
FNU Leviathon - Titan Warship? Hard to think of a generic name that greatly exceeds a Battleship.
FNU Transport Copter - Air Transport (to go with Naval and Land transports)

I like Maelstrom's suggestions. Historically, FNU has standard descriptive names. It gives new players a little extra help as well.

Mobile Fortress sounds cool. Bullfrog was a cool name, but doesn't sound aggressive enough. Another name should be taken.

I also like Nutcrackers idea of Vulture. Makes me think of carnage. Swooping over the battlefield, preying on the weakened combatants. Vulture for PL, Attack Helicopter for FNU.

Aggressive, thought provoking names for PL.

I personally would stick with Leviathan. Makes me think of something large, powerful and intimidating.

Dragon is perfect.

Anyway, just my thoughts...

Leviathon is already taken by the PL super-battleship. I was trying to think of a descriptive name of a warship significantly bigger than a battleship but couldn't.

Attack Copter as PL = Vulture
Submarine as PL = Shark
Battle Platform as PL = Lillypad to go with the Bullfrog :)

Transport Copter as FNU = Air Transport
Bullfrog as FNU = Megabot
Leviathan as FNU = Bismarck, the most feared battleship ever.

Could always make the FNU counterpart to the Leviathan the biblical parallel, the "Behemoth," cf. Job 40:15, 41:1. Many through the ages have thought that these two obscure hebrew terms could refer to dinosaurs or some other terrible beast. At the end of the day they probably don't, but "Behemoth" would still be a good name. :-)

Maelstrom, oops on the Leviathan. Sorry.

I like Titan Warship, but what about simply Warship? Not sure how well Titan fits in with FNU. I'm not against Titan, just a little on the fence I guess.

Placid... great idea I think with Behemoth. However, I don't think it fits with the current naming scheme. Then again, is it really that important to stick with the current naming, or should new names be chosen for FNU across the board? I don't know. Maybe it would be cooler for FNU units to follow, say, a defensive scheme? With PL using aggressive, war mongering, names. I think it was Maelstrom who suggested Mobile Fortress. Good name for FNU. Maybe things that usually only attack when cornered. Ferret, wolverine, etc....

Anyway, just my thoughts again. I'm not much of an idea man, I'll leave that to those better equipped.

Thank you for such active discussion on names for units.

Here's the list which I think is OK:

Attack Copter as PL = Vulture
Submarine as PL = Shark
Battle Platform as PL = Lillypad

Transport Copter as FNU = Air Transport

Can you please get us more variants for Bullfrog as FNU and Leviathan as FNU?

Thanks in advance.

Lillypad? Ugh :)

On the Bullfrog/Leviathon, maybe they can have some kind of similar naming sceme considering that they are the premier units for Land and Sea respectively.

Maybe something like Land Fortress and Sea Fortress.

Or an acronym similar to LAV.

Heavy Assault Land Vehicle (HALV) and Heavy Assault Sea Vehicle (HASV).

If FNU has used basic descriptions like "tank", you could stick with that theme and make it easy. There's nothing wrong with a name which is merely descriptive and not fancy....Of course, if that had been a pattern then it was broken by the title of Bullfrog....which could otherwise have been named....Mobile Antitank, Mobile Arsenal, Multiweapon....Mobile Artillery....
I'd like to be able to dismantle my bullfrogs, thereby being able to load them on land transport or helicopter....ha....
How about staying with the frog theme?....Pond critter theme?....The Rush...for helicopter....(A rush is a marsh plant)....Lillypad....a Hunter....Which can also be found at a pond, hunting ducks.
