You've conquered a neutral 3-income country, but suspect it to be a secret ally of your opponent. How much forces would you leave behind and where? Supposing very little aid may come from neighboring allies. |

difficult question because there are so many variables. What we know is: that they will get 12pts to build troops (ie. 6 tanks) Most likely they will only reveal if they feel they can recapture since an indemnity is painful You get to do damage first before your opponent Keeping a force that can kill 12 points of troops in the territory would minimize your effectiveness elsewhere. Advice: For a minimum, I would stick a couple units around the capital so it cannot be easily overun by the opponent. You should probably stick with a bunker in the city surrounded by some lav's. Remember that 6 tanks can kill 3 lav's a turn. If you own a border country you could keep some lavs or tanks inside the 3per and keep a reserve of money in the ally to respond to a reveal. Just remember that you win if your opponent reveals and cannot recapture the whole country. So keep a mix of forces that insure that you reach this goal, but try not to just keep a ton of troops sitting around doing nothing. |

I generally tend to spread out some garrison forces if I think a medium could be an enemy SA. By scattering out some LAVs/bunkers then when the opponent dicloses, they need to figure out how to deal with all of them at once, and you'll have plenty of time to send reinforcements in to get the easy indemnity. I agree with Silicor that a couple of these should be guarding the capital, but if you put them all there they'll have an easier time focusing firepower on them. |

Good points. I like to keep a unit in the capital, and some more at the border(s) so that it will be impossible for the enemy to capture the country as long as support troops can fill those border spots. And yes saving some money in a bordering ally is good advice. |

True, if you have a nice spread out country putting a couple units on the opposite side will make them either split forces or use precious resources on a transport. |

I tend to line the border in question w/cheap units...If possible an ostrich placed between more than one "questionables" .It can move quickly(w/o a transport) and put down an uprising with a big stick! What do you think about a line of lav's running from friendly border to the capitol in question? |

I probably wouldn't leave a unit as valuable as an Ostrich around unless you have an excess of funds. As far as the LAV line, the problem with that is they can concentrate deployment troops in one area (as opposed to when you are spread out). Also, with a line, they could easily roll it up from one end without your LAVs being able to do significant damage in return, especially considering this is a medium country we're talking about. |

Consider a case of three captured caps, all possibles. One $4 ostrich patrolling "equa-distant"..."in-between" can spring to the rescue and make something viable of some existing lav's....That $4 could have gone to 4-lav's, but as you noted, they lack punch. This kind of situation is very likely on large map, especially when the opponent knows how to keep a secret. |

Secret you say, are you talking behind my back again T? I seem to have noticed that YOU have left quite a bit more than a few lavs laying around some meds in our sea of sorrow game ![]() |

Hee,hee....Thanks to your secretiveness(!)....I've had to leave several armies on garrison duty....which included an Ostrich, among many tanks, transports, and those lav's....How about a time limit on undisclosed countries?....I vote Yes!... ![]() |

I vote no. Also, with over 100 MAN games under his belt, I am supprised that Tryptamon asked this question to begin with--unless General Tryptamon of the MAN network is a different player than Major Tryptamon of the MAN2 network. |

With 340+ MAN1 games plus Domination and MAN2's....I'm still trying to figure this game out. Good thing for you and all them other 88mm Flaks. ![]() See you in Sea Meltdown. I think that's the same Trypy...someday to be a contender. |
