I'm not making any judgments one way or the other.

I am just curious if MAN2 is using Starforce or not. The reason I ask is because Domination used it, and although MAN2 is freely downloadable, MAN2 asks you to reboot upon installation (could be anything that requires this) and Starforce has certainly been used in demos/freely downloadables before.

Thanks in advance.

MAN2 is purely online. No CD and no Starforce.

I apologize in advance for my newness, Maelstrom, but are you affiliated with this website or the developers of the game? I cannot tell from your avatar if you are or are just a veteran player (by your high number of posts!) :D

Starforce comes in many different flavors. There are different "kits" which can, for example, help to ensure that an authentic CD/DVD is always in the drive, or help to make reverse engineering very difficult. For the latter reason it is sometimes (read: rarely) included in demos and other online-only applications that are otherwise freely redistributable.

It wouldn't make much sense for Wargaming.net to use the Starforce CD DRM rootkit since this isn't a retail physical product but they may have used the Starforce drivers to try and keep the product "safe".

Thanks again in advance. If you are affiliated with the site or game than you've answered my question; if not, then it might be helpful to hear from one of the devs or admins, if possible. :D

Just a fan that has been around for a while...

Starforce was added to Domination by the publisher, Dreamcatcher. MAN2 is purely online, so bypasses the publisher entirely.

I'm sure if I'm wrong the devs will correct me, but otherwise take my word for it :)

Thanks for the responses Maelstrom it does make sense that if the publisher was the one that added it that this offering should be SF-free.

think about this Lil pips, the game is played online, you have to have a valid activation code to register, the code is loged against your user name so it can not be used more than once, there is no cd or way to play the game without being connected to the game server. Given all of this, what would the purpose be of a star force type of anti copy device?

Logic? Sense? A publisher craves not these things! :P Example: TrackMania Nations is pure online and freely downloadable, but they still bundled StarForce with it.

However, I was worried and asked support about it. They confirmed by email that there is no copy prevention on this game (at least not the beta):
Quote:
Hello,

Thank you for your interest in Massive Assault series!

Actually, MAN2 is online-oriented game and there's no any kind of copy
protection in it. So feel free to try it.

Sincerely,
Nick Katselapov

"Man, that is scary....Howwl!" [Count Floyd]
Actually, Nick responded to me about the game speed issue, and he acknowledged it is an issue which would be addressed.
I really don't know these people, but Nick appears to care about the MAN Product and Support.
If you play the Trial Games you will experience how the game plays.
MAN2 is very unique, very playable, and full of players who will make conversation -OR- keep their traps shut, based on the situation.
"It is the only game which is worthy", says I.
