Post subject:  map pack size, not dial up friendly

Hello,

I've been a fan of the MA series for some time now. I started with the orginal boxed product MA; skipped MAN1; purchased DOM, couldn't get it to play online. MAN2 is pretty damn good. I prefer the old plain/clean graphics of the first MA, but I can live the current system. Haven't applied the new patch yet, I hope it will make the hex colors a little more vibrant.

As to the reason I'm posting: the 356mb map-pack is an estimated 28 hour download on my dial up connection. Thats assuming there are no interuptions and what not.

I noticed that the map file sizes were identical between DOM and MAN2, so I copied over what I could. Logged into the game to see that I was missing some .scl file, identified those & copied over; looks like the game is OK with that. I've started one game just to see if it'll actually work. Assuming it does, however, I will still be missing about 10 maps, mostly those from the orginal MA series. I can live without most of them, but I'd like to have wasserland and a few of the medium sized maps.

Is there a FTP site where I can simply download the missing individual files?

You can change Graphical options (Gamma, for example), perhaps, you can find better variant for you.

You can download map-pack by using GetRight or same programs.

The graphics in MA were just more on the simple or plain side. I liked them better, since this is a thinking game, rather than some action. I usually play w/ all options disabled, and no sound. I tried adjusting the gamma, like you suggested by, it did't really do anything other than increase/decrease the brightness. When I'm playing craeteus for example, it's difficult to tell the normal hexes (+1 movement) from the rough ground (+2 movement required).

In fact, that's the exact program I'm using. www.tucows.com gave it the coveted 5-Cow rating. I'll probably just download @ night, over a few days.

Thanks for the reply Big Cat.

CSW, do you have any friends that are also playing man2? If so perhaps they could just burn the map pack to a cd and send it to you. If you are in the usa, send me your address and i will mail you a cd with the map pack on it. You can get my email address from my profile page.
