Rather than have a time limit for each turn, is there any way that each player could be given a number of days to play all their turns in a game i.e. 2 weeks. That way the game would never last longer than 4 weeks total.

Would be something like a chess clock where the other players time starts counting down as soon as you make your move.

That way there would be no need for a 2 or 3 day time limit on each turn and it would even allow players to go on holiday for a week without any trouble and extra hassle. The player can just play more quickly when they get back.

Like in chess, an extra amount of time could be given once both players have made say 10 turns.

I also suggest this for the clan war.

that is exactly what I was proposing, I just did not know that was the way chess clocks work. It would provide the most flexibility for a player with a demanding schedule without wasting the time of their opponenets. Also totally agree it should be used for clan wars. I envision those CW maps becoming huge trafic jams since troops cannot move in or out of disputed territories.

I admittedly haven't read all the posts in this thread, but I would like to query the time limit of the tournament - when given 3 days per turn, how is it that the tournament can finish before the final game is finished within this 3 day per turn limit?

I am asking because I am confused why one of my games cannot be counted even though I kept within the time limit.

It would be great if we could set the game to do something like this! Chess clocks ensure games move along quickly without killing flexibility like hard turn limits do.

But if its not implemented on the MA side, anything like this will be awfully difficult to track. It would require that moderators keep track of the time between turns for all games in progress with at least daily frequency, time which none of the moderator volunteers have.

We can only hope that MA:PR will inlude such options as a standard chess clock (time increment per turn, total game time).

Ben - As your game couldn't affect the standings in the group in any case - it wasn't necessary for it to be adjudicated.

The rules originally specified a 3 week limit for games - this was extended to 4 weeks.

Still think average time per turn is the best way to stop dragging the games. The reason why this is better then chess clock is that we have different planet sizes, which calls for different total time limits.

On the other hand, chess clock is nothing else but allowance to do X turns with a certain average turn time. So either there should be longer total time limits for larger planets, or the same average turn time limit can be used.

Again, i think the developers should be able to compute and show the average turn time easily. Then, the moderators would have an easy job to terminate games that have been played too slowly, while players would still have the flexibility to take a few days off, and then catch up ;)

Anything that requires Clan War/ Tourney moderators to spend time calculating values for each game is too much. Unless you're volunteering ;)

Keep in mind as well that the players playing need to just as easily see if they are in danger, so your calculations would need to be easily accessible to all players.

So basically, something like this would best be implemented on the Massive Assault developer end, but they are (rightly) focusing heavily on releasing MA:PR.

As far as the Chess Clock, I'm not seeing any difference between what you're suggesting and what a Chess Clock can do: Set the Chess Clock to two weeks per player as MortonHQ said, and you have 4 weeks to finish the game, period.

But neither of these methods account for when a game goes extra long (I've had games with other players go as high as 40+ turns). In a tournament, that game would have to go into adjucation as all games needed to be concluded within the 4 week window, but in a Clan War or friendly game environment, you can set a Chess clock to have an increment per turn, say 1 day. So each turn you play then adds 1 day to the total time in which you need to complete the game. Your timer would start decrementing as soon as your opponent plays their turn.

A 3rd setting is to use just the increment per turn, and you have the current Massive Assault setup (0 total time 3 day increment is the same as a 3 day hard limit, as you get 3 days added to your clock each time you complete a turn).

With a variable Total game time and a variable per turn increment, you can come up with a range of possible timing schemes that allow both flexibility while forcing the game to continue at a good speed.

it seems that Daemonas can;t play at all during the week? as he did this last week too, surely if u can't play during the week u don't enter tourneys with 3 day limits? (I don't ahve a game with him but it seems unfair to his opponents to keep doing this)

GB became the first team to qualify for the Final Today.

If there is sufficient interest there will be a 3rd place playoff between Europe and the loser of the other Semi-Final.
