Hi!!, I'm Spanish so I don't understand well some explanations about the tournament. :o

1) What "give a bye" or "receive a bye" means? I assume that this means to say good bye to the player so that player is out of the tournament.

2) Why players in round 1 play more matches than players in round 1a?
Is the initial seed based on rank or score of the players?
For example, I play two matches but in round 1 people play 4 matches. Why?

3) What are the numbers in "3-way Matches" and "4-way Matches"? the seed numbers? Then none player will be eliminated after round 1?
Let's consider my case: I have a seed of 59 and I play against Donut that have 38. So what happens If I win and what if I lose?

I hope you understand my english!!

My best regards.

Nharkor.

1) the 'bye' means that they don't fight and win, going through to round 2.

2) No idea.

3) If you beat me, then you become seed 38. 3-way means that 3 players all play each other, and 4-way means that 4 players all play each other.

1) Bye you've got right - it means you go into Round 2 without having to play in Round 1.

2) Seeding was based on MAN Score, MAN Rating, Glicko Rating and past performance in tournaments.

The 4 way matches work like two rounds.
The 3 way matches are like groups with everyone playing everyone.
The reason for the unusual draw in Round 1 is to get the number of people to exactly 32 in the undefeated pool and 32 in the once defeated pool.

3) Numbers are seeding - if you win you take the lower number seeding into the next round - if you lose you take the higher number seeding.

In 3-way matches - one player remains undefeated, one player loses one life and one player loses both lives.

Hope this makes sense!

Cheers, MW.

Its a tournament type where after each round, you play players with similar records to you. Noone is eliminated, but as you win or lose, you will tend to play against those of your level. If you keep losing, you play against other players with poor records, etc. It tends to create a nice pecking order from best to worst players with enough iterations.

Best to Worst pecking order? Ahem, as a Noob at the bottom of the proverbial pile, might I suggest "More Experienced to Less Experience" as being more kind, or at least politically correct?
By the way, thanks for explaining Swiss tournament - but what is DEKO? Is it similar to a GEKO? And how the heck do some of the players have 8 and 9 points 1/2 way through the second week? Sheeeeeeeeesh.
... Carry On.

politically correct??? Who cares about being politically correct??

Actually using the term "More Experienced to Less Experience" would be incorrect. Having a lot of experience does not make you the best and hence you will not be at the top of this tournament just because you have lots of experience. Best to worse is a correct statement and is quite appropriate. This is a game. People win, people lose. Those that win are considered the best, those who lose are considered the worst.

yeah..political correctness is such a....noncence.
any Chris is right - experience and skill in tournament have not much in common.Manko is probably most experienced player online but he rarely joins tournaments. And Rocklizard for example isnt even close to top place in experience list while he is probably best MA player.

Ok, ok already. I was just trying to be humorous, lighten up already. Did ya see the "Geko" part? Get it? Like the lizard (on the TV commercials for you fellow Yanks). I actually don't give a flea's fart about political correctness... I mean hey they say women are mens intellectual equals and their brain is actually 5 ounces smaller on average! See, I really don't care! Oh shit, duck INCOMING.
