Good day Ravermeister!!!
You are totally right. Only team competition (as you propose) with captain at the head of each team will show real power of each team.
So I'm not mind to fight in proposed format.
Let's organize some teams (for example UK with MortonHQ, Rocklizard as liders, German with Morn and Narval and so on).
As soon as teams will be completed we will start a new tournament.

First - I would like to have just a simple East vs West Superstart Grudge Match.......

But also - a small leaue /clan wars would be nice after that.....

Say teams of 5 or more players per team (clan)...
5 Maps per Round - randomly generated
Then team captains assign their players to the maps
Clans can have more than 5 players - but each player can only play a maximum of 2 games (10 games per round = 2 on each map)
So - you could have 5-10 players compete per round from each team.
Strategy of who will play what games.
Need a FAIR chess clock - say 14 days with 2 day freeze.

Sort of like Clan wars..... (but not).

GO FOUNDATION !!!!!!!!

That way - people can rest - dont have to play each round....team members can help out.
A good team will have spare capacity.
I would limit teams to 10 people - so every one can play at least one game (if available) - but only 5 are needed per round.
Probably needs a nice web site to make it happen - where team captains make their choices etc...

Alex, will we get to see the layout of the east players before we choose to play? Better yet, is there some way we can actually choose the layout of the east players? All kidding aside, they have many very good players and are going to win a lot of games no matter what the format. I did find it strange that with so many other higher ranking players to choose from they reached so far down the list to get Ilya--bad for them but good for me and since I choose to believe he quit playing because he realized what the outcome was going to be, the victories were earned

Hugo: Le_Roy, did you read storm's post about picking the layout for our opponents? How did he find out?
Le_Roy:No No he was just being hypothetical (I think). I don't think anyone else is sharp enough to figure this out and the rest of the west players will just dismiss storm's comments as the mindless ranting of an old man:)
Hugo: Well, they did get 4 points already so that should throw anyone off that may start to question how random the random map draws really were.
Le_Roy: 4 points? O--the time outs, guess we could not really take that twist of fate into our initial calculations. Now, with the game Morn will win they will be up to 6 and Ravermister may screw things up even more if he wins one.
Hugo: Yea, I thought when this started we were a shoe in to go 64 to 4, with them getting 8 the betting lines will really be screwed up--and this is before Rocklizard--did you forget about him, they could easily be up to 12 before this all plays out(:
Le_Roy: I knew we should have tried to sneak in that extra large for the east players, most of the west plays while watching american idol anyway so I am sure it would have slipped past. Too bad Jedi shot that one down as too blatant!
Hugo: Maybe next time
Le_Roy: Yea, next time!!!

I have not meant to slight the other west players that may also pull out wins!! By the time this is all over we could easily be up to 20-25 points  Good thing we got to pick the maps

How about this

Morn is currently the No.1 West Player..
AHgpeu is currently the No.1 East Player..

If they both agree to be captains - then they can pick 4 team members each
This will from the East and West all stars teams

Then they will chose 5 maps (Say Sea Swiss and 2 each)
THen they will chose who will play on each map
then we have 10 games

ANy thoughts?

Hear hear! If I had one wish, this is what i'd like to see!

Just a question here... do we have an overall time limit on this tourney? Filin has been giving me one turn approximately every week, so at this rate our games won't be decided until May or June. Is that dragging the tourney out too much?

I don't mind waiting a little bit, I understand life. And especially in the tourney situation where at least he's playing semi-regularly, I'd hate to end it like that.

So just to confirm, that would be two games per player?

I would be available for selection and I am 99% certain that MortonHQ would be also.

My commanders have all given up their tenancies of their retirement homes and are ready for the next battle. I also have all these nice repainted tanks......

FYI I gonna surrender in our game, but right now I'm using this game for Java-client debugging. So actual surrender will be in 4-5 days.
It was very interesting game. I'm glad to play with you.

Fair chess-clock limit 14 day+2 day freeze….You killing me,Alex. My opponent Cujo send me turns after 13 days 23 hours 30 minutes.Every turns, like swiss watch.I think good point for finish ours games will be begining of Sochi-2014.But I don’t hurry. :D
West is looking for the explanations of tournaments avoiding – «lack of time,no internet, bad chess clock, broken PC,russian cheaters(my personal regards for yannium-walla)».That are the sad excuse.
Frankly says-now West has not real players with fight spirit for tournament battles. Best west players don’t wanna get bad emotions.Much more better play with fatboy or sleclair. You can agree with my opinion or don’t.But this is truth.
Do you remember Kingmanhill-2008?They say this tourney make some strong players to give up playing the game. Many hard party every month, very tense calendar, necessity to play all year long for the victory. But look at 2009.Many short, different, interesting tournaments –kings of the map,Global Cup,World Team Championship. But almost nobody best from the west.Great respect for Lars –his taking part in ‘’king trinity’’ raised interest in Russia. If I can describe that time in our chat like one slogan – it could be ‘’ crush Morn’’. :D Who else?Rambo had some good games and won Micronesia,Skanda got success and the best hero Sapara on Anubis. That all for 2009.Poland found 3 different players for WTC-2009!Not England,Germany,Italy or France!Poland.LOL.Nonsence.Only Yankee can organize USA-team.Very sad.No community –no teams.
2010.I thought returning of Rocklizard,Morton,Ravermeister,Maelstrom and Andorians could be changing the situation.No.The same one.
Now anyone can connect with Jedi-Neoff and to create the tournament like he wants.Need only good willing and some interested in it.

I really am not sure what you are complaining about Le_Roy? Are you saying that just because most of the West players prefer not to play 10 simultaneous chess clock games in a tournament that we are either not good enough and/or not welcome amongst the more elite East players?

I played KingoftheHill 2008 to the bitter end without ever losing a game due to time running out and rarely does it take me longer than 3 days to send turns back.

It is just that I have other priorities in life and so prefer to play fewer games at any one time.

I think the new format that Morn is suggesting makes sense and will be a good contest - so Ahgpeu, my old adversary, are you ready to lead your team out to battle or are they too busy playing each other in multiple simultaneous non-stop games?

Like so many of us.

This was ravermeister's idea. Honor to whom honor is due. ;-)

Now,we have another situation.Look at the history of tournaments-2009-2010 on the website,Mike. Most of tourney consist of only 2-4 simultaneous chess clock games for a player.More than that- Jedi made 18 hours freeze after opponent`s turns.Very comfortable,is not it?But
most of the West players avoid the tournaments.West can explain it ''life priority, unfair chess clock, etc''.I have another idea.Spoke about it in my previous post.
