With each game having a turn limit (which having never gone past i'm assuming does somthing bad).
It would be nice to have a "holiday" mode that you can put yourself in via the web site, ie if i was on holiday for 10 days but i had a turn which limit was up half way through and i was unable to play it wouldn't do what ever it does when you exceed the turn limit.

A holiday feature could be useful, I agree. Mayhaps one where you have to request your opponents permission to put the game timer on hold for 2-4 weeks?

I took a 2-3 day break from the game, with no ill effect to my 1-day turn limit games, which are still in progress.

Does that mean there's some sort of bug or perhaps a grace period?

No, it just means your opponents decided not to time them out.
